Marshall Noah McKusick A Lt. in the 6th Bat., Light Artillery, Maine, from 1863 (enlisted 1861) to the end of the Civil War. He taught scool, practised Law and was appointed Postmaster, Calais by Pres. Arthur in 1882. He was elected mayor five times between 1886 and 1907. A letter from him to Thaddeus Smith, written in 1863, details his escape after being captured by Rebel forces. Lost and close to starvation, he was rscued by a black family and guided back to Union lines.² Reference: 133. He was born on 12 March 1841 at Baring, ME. He married Mary A.
